The NMF18114-FE full-metal inductive sensor ensures reliable, repeatable detection of steel while completely ignoring non-ferrous metals within its operating zone.
The M18 inductive sensor offers reliable operation in environments with high loads. The M18 dimensions promote quick installation, easy replacement, and reduced servicing time for equipment.
Technical specification:
- Diameter: M18, large diameter providing a longer detection range in demanding industrial applications
- Length: 79 mm, suited for operation in demanding industrial conditions
- Detection range: 8 mm, stable inductive switching characteristics under industrial conditions
- Detected materials: Steel and other ferrous metals (aluminium ignored), aluminium and its alloys are not the detection target, which eliminates unwanted signals in mixed-metal processes involving non-ferrous components
- Correction factor K: K = 1 for steel (full, natural sensing range), the full rated range for steel makes it easier to design applications without additional assumptions about range reduction
- Housing: Threaded, resistant to loosening during machine operation and vibration
- Housing material: Stainless steel, high resistance to corrosion and chemical exposure
- Sensor face material: Stainless steel, high mechanical resistance to impact, abrasion, and damage
- Mounting: Non-flush mounting, maximum detection range for metal objects
- Switching function: NC, used in safety functions and operational monitoring
- Plug type: M12, M8 or M12 connectors provide a standardized, stable electrical connection
- Supply voltage: DC 10-30V, widely used power supply in control systems
Applications
- Stamping and pressing of steel sheets – The use of the inductive proximity sensor supports automation of steel processing operations while completely disregarding aluminium process waste.
- Steel structures of heat exchangers – Use in the production of steel components for heat exchangers and radiators increases the reliability of process control.
- Recycling and sorting of steel scrap – Use in scrap sorting and ferrous metal recycling increases the selectivity of the steel recovery process.
- Checking before pressing of steel – Applications of the FE sensor include confirming the presence of the actual steel component before starting the next pressing stage.
- Production of fasteners – The FE inductive sensor is used in the production of bolts, nuts and other steel fasteners, confirming their presence in the process.
Benefits/Features
- Total insensitivity to aluminium – the sensor does not react to aluminium components, filings, chips or dust present in the detection zone, eliminating false triggering in a mixed-metal environment.
- Part-presence sensor – can check the presence of a steel component at a specific location without reacting to incidental aluminium parts.
- Durable construction – the monolithic construction increases the resistance of the solution used to check steel components.
- For applications with aluminium chips in the surroundings – performs well wherever aluminium chips generated during machining should not be treated as the detected element.
- Steel + ferrous metals + K=1 – the combination of material specialisation and full, natural range is an important advantage when designing applications.
When to choose this model
- For checking components before resistance welding – the contactless sensor enables checking the presence of a part without mechanical contact with its surface.
- For steel transport – the material presence sensor can detect the passage of steel components on a conveyor or production line.
- When you want to check only steel, not other metals – choose a solution designed for the selective detection of a steel part, ignoring other metals in the surroundings.
- When you need a combination of durability and full range – choose the full-metal proximity sensor if the application requires a resistant construction and a natural, rated range for steel.
The diameter of an inductive sensor is a dimension that defines the width of the sensor element measured in millimeters. This is an important technical parameter as it affects the mounting method and the space required for installation.
Rated detection range is a key parameter of an inductive sensor.Indicates the distance at which the sensor changes its output state when a metal object approaches its front end axially. This is the sensor's most important functional feature—it determines how close the object being detected must be in order to be registered.
