The industrial NMF18111-NF inductive sensor in the NF version stands out for its material selectivity - it detects aluminium and non-ferrous metals while ignoring steel and its derivatives.
The M18 product has been designed for automation systems with high operational requirements. The standard M18 diameter ensures convenient mounting in most industrial applications along with stable, reliable sensor operation.
Technical specification:
- Diameter: M18, suited to applications with higher mechanical loads
- Length: 79 mm, used in large industrial installations requiring high reliability
- Detection range: 8 mm, detection range depending on the diameter and design of the inductive sensor
- Detected materials: Aluminium and other non-ferrous metals (steel ignored), material selectivity makes it possible to disregard fine metal residue that should not be treated as the actual workpiece
- Correction factor K: K = 1 for aluminium (full rated sensing range), the actual sensing range allows the model to be selected based on the actual distance to the aluminium workpiece
- Housing: Threaded, fastening with lock nuts ensures a stable installation
- Housing material: Stainless steel, increased mechanical strength of the housing ensures a long service life
- Sensor face material: Stainless steel, capable of operating in coolants, oils, and industrial emulsions
- Mounting: Non-flush mounting, wider lateral field of action expands application possibilities
- Switching function: NO, used in typical machine control applications
- Plug type: M12, connector sensors allow quick, tool-free connection to industrial installations
- Supply voltage: DC 10-30V, widely used power supply in control systems
Applications
- Automotive assembly lines – The NF aluminium detector enables position control of aluminium parts on automotive assembly lines.
- Robots welding aluminium structures – Applications of the NF proximity sensor include checking the presence of parts in robots welding aluminium structures.
- Scrap recycling and sorting – Use in scrap sorting and non-ferrous metal recycling increases the selectivity of the aluminium recovery process.
- Inspection before stamping – The NF proximity sensor is used to check the presence of a part before the stamping cycle for aluminium sheets and components.
- Multiple processes in one solution – The NF inductive sensor is used where a single solution must handle multiple aluminium-related processes: cutting, stamping, welding, resistance welding, assembly and transport of parts.
Benefits/Features
- Metal sensing face – the robust metal sensing face performs well in the direct vicinity of machinery, where aluminium parts are detected and individual filings or chips are not the actual detection target.
- Selective part detection – the solution allows inspection to be focused on the actual aluminium part, reducing the significance of individual filings and chips present around it.
- Resistant metal sensing face – the metal sensing face provides additional protection when operating near aluminium workpieces, including in environments where chips are present.
- Inspection of the actual workpiece – the solution is designed to detect aluminium and non-ferrous parts, not individual fragments generated during machining.
- Predictable design – the actual range stated in the documentation allows the system to be designed in line with specific aluminium detection requirements.
When to choose this model
- For aluminium welding – choose this model for automatic position checking of aluminium parts during preparation and operation of welding stations.
- For non-ferrous metal detection – choose this model when you need a proximity sensor to inspect parts made of aluminium or other non-ferrous materials.
- When you want to inspect the actual part instead of production waste – choose a solution designed to detect the aluminium workpiece, not fine fragments generated during machining.
- For aluminium welding stations – non-contact position checking makes it possible to verify that a part is in the correct location before an operation begins.
Connection
The sensor has an NPN output, so connect it with an M12 4-pin connection cable without LEDs. Cables with LEDs (NXOC12281…, NXOC12401…) have a yellow status LED wired for a PNP output and are not suitable for NPN sensors.
The diameter of an inductive sensor is a dimension that defines the width of the sensor element measured in millimeters. This is an important technical parameter as it affects the mounting method and the space required for installation.
Rated detection range is a key parameter of an inductive sensor.Indicates the distance at which the sensor changes its output state when a metal object approaches its front end axially. This is the sensor's most important functional feature—it determines how close the object being detected must be in order to be registered.
