The NMF18112-NF full-metal inductive sensor is designed for selective detection of aluminium and other non-ferrous metals, while ignoring steel components.
The M18 version has been developed for operation in difficult industrial conditions. M18 sensors offer versatile dimensions suited to typical automation installations, ensuring durability and easy integration.
Technical specification:
- Diameter: M18, used in heavier industrial automation requiring high durability
- Length: 79 mm, elongated housing with increased mechanical rigidity and high durability
- Detection range: 8 mm, repeatable signal activation distance ensures precise detection
- Detected materials: Aluminium and other non-ferrous metals (steel ignored), detection focused on the actual aluminium part, not on individual filings or chips generated during machining
- Correction factor K: K = 1 for aluminium (full rated sensing range), the correction factor K = 1 means that the rated range Sn applies directly to aluminium, without the typical reduction applied to non-ferrous metals
- Housing: Threaded, fastening with lock nuts ensures a stable installation
- Housing material: Stainless steel, increased mechanical strength of the housing ensures a long service life
- Sensor face material: Stainless steel, high mechanical resistance to impact, abrasion, and damage
- Mounting: Non-flush mounting, maximum detection range for metal objects
- Switching function: NC, output closed at rest ensures continuous signal monitoring
- Plug type: M12, M8 or M12 connectors provide a standardized, stable electrical connection
- Supply voltage: DC 10-30V, stable operation in DC-powered installations
Applications
- Vehicle production – Applications of the NF inductive sensor include detecting aluminium parts in automated vehicle production systems.
- Cutting and preparation of profiles – The inductive sensor for detecting aluminium performs well on cutting and preparation lines for aluminium profiles prior to further processing.
- Electronic enclosures – Use in the production of aluminium electronic enclosures supports automatic assembly control.
- Inspection before welding – The inductive sensor for aluminium performs well at welding stations, where it checks the correct position of parts before the process starts.
- Automatic metal presence inspection – The metal presence detector is used at production stages where what matters is detecting the entire aluminium workpiece, not individual metallic contaminants.
Benefits/Features
- Specialization for aluminium – the solution was developed for detecting actual aluminium parts, without being aimed at detecting individual filings or chips.
- Selective part detection – the solution allows inspection to be focused on the actual aluminium part, reducing the significance of individual filings and chips present around it.
- Proximity sensor for non-ferrous metals – performs well for non-contact inspection of aluminium parts and other non-ferrous metals.
- Fewer random signals – reducing reactions to fine aluminium residue can be beneficial in applications where what matters is the presence of the whole part.
- Aluminium + non-ferrous metals + K = 1 – the combination of material specialization and full rated range is an important advantage when designing applications.
When to choose this model
- For aluminium stamping – it is worth using for checking the presence of an aluminium sheet, workpiece or part before starting a stamping cycle.
- When installation space is limited – the full rated range for aluminium can make it easier to design a compact detection setup.
- When machining filings are present at the station – the aluminium detection sensor can be used to inspect the actual workpiece without being intended to detect individual filings.
- For demanding industrial applications – the full-metal inductive sensor will be a suitable choice when, besides aluminium detection, construction durability is important.
Connection
The sensor has an NPN output, so connect it with an M12 4-pin connection cable without LEDs. Cables with LEDs (NXOC12281…, NXOC12401…) have a yellow status LED wired for a PNP output and are not suitable for NPN sensors.
The diameter of an inductive sensor is a dimension that defines the width of the sensor element measured in millimeters. This is an important technical parameter as it affects the mounting method and the space required for installation.
Rated detection range is a key parameter of an inductive sensor.Indicates the distance at which the sensor changes its output state when a metal object approaches its front end axially. This is the sensor's most important functional feature—it determines how close the object being detected must be in order to be registered.
