The NMF18112-FE full-metal inductive sensor provides stable detection of the actual steel component, disregarding interference from surrounding non-ferrous metals.
The M18 model represents a sensor line for demanding production applications. The versatile M18 size makes integration easier across many machine designs, control systems, and industrial installations.
Technical specification:
- Diameter: M18, suited to applications with higher mechanical loads
- Length: 79 mm, better resistance to shocks, vibration, and mechanical stress
- Detection range: 8 mm, repeatable signal activation distance ensures precise detection
- Detected materials: Steel and other ferrous metals (aluminium ignored), detection focused on the actual steel part, not on individual aluminium filings, chips or dust remaining in the surroundings
- Correction factor K: K = 1 for steel (full, natural sensing range), the full rated range for steel makes it easier to design applications without additional assumptions about range reduction
- Housing: Threaded, resistant to loosening during machine operation and vibration
- Housing material: Stainless steel, high resistance to corrosion and chemical exposure
- Sensor face material: Stainless steel, dimensional stability under dynamic load conditions
- Mounting: Non-flush mounting, fully exposed detection zone provides maximum sensing range
- Switching function: NC, output closed at rest ensures continuous signal monitoring
- Plug type: M12, connector sensors allow quick, tool-free connection to industrial installations
- Supply voltage: DC 10-30V, standard supply voltage range for industrial sensors
Applications
- Production transport and intralogistics – The FE part-presence sensor monitors the presence of steel pallets, parts or hooks on conveyor lines and belt conveyors.
- Steel profiles and structures in construction – The FE full-metal inductive sensor ensures stable operation under the demanding conditions of manufacturing steel profiles and structures for the construction industry.
- Presses for stamping and blanking steel – The steel detector is used in presses for stamping and blanking steel components.
- Packaging and labelling – Applications of the FE contactless sensor include checking the presence of steel parts at packaging and labelling stations.
- Railways and rail infrastructure – Applications of the FE inductive sensor include checking the presence of steel track components and rail car parts.
Benefits/Features
- Detection of ferrous metals – the device performs well when checking components made of steel and other ferromagnetic materials, where aluminium present in the surroundings should not be treated as the actual part.
- Part-position sensor – enables checking the position of a steel component in a machine, focusing detection on the actual part.
- Durable construction – the monolithic construction increases the resistance of the solution used to check steel components.
- For ferrous metals – the solution can be used to check components made of steel and other ferromagnetic materials, while maintaining characteristics focused on the actual part.
- A solution for industrial automation – the combination of full-metal construction, K=1 for steel and material specialisation makes the series suitable for demanding automation applications.
When to choose this model
- For automatic steel checking – the inductive proximity sensor will perform well wherever the presence of a steel component needs to be confirmed in the production process.
- When the actual range matters – choose this model if, when designing an application, you want to base the detection distance on the value given in the documentation.
- When aluminium should not trigger a detection signal – the model is designed for applications where the actual object is exclusively a steel component.
- When you need a specialised solution for steel and ferrous metals – choose a full-metal inductive sensor with a natural K=1 and an actual rated range, designed for the contactless detection of the actual parts in processes such as cutting, stamping, welding, resistance welding and automatic assembly, without being aimed at detecting aluminium and other non-ferrous metals.
Connection
The sensor has an NPN output, so connect it with an M12 4-pin connection cable without LEDs. Cables with LEDs (NXOC12281…, NXOC12401…) have a yellow status LED wired for a PNP output and are not suitable for NPN sensors.
The diameter of an inductive sensor is a dimension that defines the width of the sensor element measured in millimeters. This is an important technical parameter as it affects the mounting method and the space required for installation.
Rated detection range is a key parameter of an inductive sensor.Indicates the distance at which the sensor changes its output state when a metal object approaches its front end axially. This is the sensor's most important functional feature—it determines how close the object being detected must be in order to be registered.
