The advanced NMF18001-FE inductive sensor supports the automation of processes in which steel is the only material to be detected.
The M18 sensor belongs to a series of devices for precise detection in industrial environments. The M18 dimensions provide adequate room for position adjustment as well as secure fastening during machine operation.
Technical specification:
- Diameter: M18, suited to applications with higher mechanical loads
- Length: 55 mm, larger threaded mounting surface provides a more stable fit
- Detection range: 5 mm, detection range depending on the diameter and design of the inductive sensor
- Detected materials: Steel and other ferrous metals (aluminium ignored), material selectivity allows aluminium, brass, copper and other non-ferrous metals present in the detection zone to be completely ignored
- Correction factor K: K = 1 for steel (full, natural sensing range), the K = 1 correction factor applies to steel and other ferrous metals as the reference material, meaning the rated operating distance Sn is the full, natural detection range
- Housing: Threaded, cylindrical housing with a mounting thread for standard industrial applications
- Housing material: Stainless steel, high resistance to corrosion and chemical exposure
- Sensor face material: Stainless steel, increased durability of the sensor's active face under intensive use
- Mounting: Flush mounting, limited lateral detection field increases operating stability
- Switching function: NO, signal generated during detection of a metal object
- Cable length: 2 m, cable sensors are used where a durable, sealed, non-detachable connection is required
- Supply voltage: DC 10-30V, stable operation in DC-powered installations
Applications
- Production transport and intralogistics – The FE part-presence sensor monitors the presence of steel pallets, parts or hooks on conveyor lines and belt conveyors.
- Machine industry and machine building – The steel detector is used in the machine industry to check the presence of structural steel components.
- Presses for stamping and blanking steel – The steel detector is used in presses for stamping and blanking steel components.
- Automatic assembly stations – The FE inductive sensor performs well at automatic assembly stations, checking the presence of steel components before assembly.
- Applications with aluminium filings in the surroundings – The ferrous metal detector performs well in applications where aluminium filings are present near the steel part and should not affect the detection result.
Benefits/Features
- Detection of ferrous metals – the device performs well when checking components made of steel and other ferromagnetic materials, where aluminium present in the surroundings should not be treated as the actual part.
- No response to aluminium chips – chips generated during aluminium machining are not the actual object to be detected when checking a steel part.
- Mechanical resistance – the full-metal design performs well in applications where steel detection takes place in a demanding industrial environment.
- Full range + steel – K=1 allows the rated range to be applied directly to the detection of the steel component, without any reduction.
- Predictable design – the actual range given in the documentation allows the system to be designed according to specific steel detection requirements.
When to choose this model
- For automatic steel checking – the inductive proximity sensor will perform well wherever the presence of a steel component needs to be confirmed in the production process.
- When you need a full-metal construction – choose this model for industrial applications requiring high mechanical resistance.
- When resistance matters during steel machining – the full-metal sensing element can be an appropriate solution for demanding production stations.
- For checking ferrous components in a mixed-metal environment – choose this model when the automation system must detect the actual steel components, ignoring aluminium parts present in the same surroundings.
The diameter of an inductive sensor is a dimension that defines the width of the sensor element measured in millimeters. This is an important technical parameter as it affects the mounting method and the space required for installation.
Rated detection range is a key parameter of an inductive sensor.Indicates the distance at which the sensor changes its output state when a metal object approaches its front end axially. This is the sensor's most important functional feature—it determines how close the object being detected must be in order to be registered.
