The NMF18012-FE inductive sensor detects only steel and ferrous metals, effectively ignoring the presence of aluminium in the vicinity of the detection zone.
The M18 product has been designed for automation systems with high operational requirements. The M18 diameter guarantees a good balance between compact build, mounting stability, and mechanical durability.
Technical specification:
- Diameter: M18, large diameter providing a longer detection range in demanding industrial applications
- Length: 55 mm, used in large industrial installations requiring high reliability
- Detection range: 8 mm, stable inductive switching characteristics under industrial conditions
- Detected materials: Steel and other ferrous metals (aluminium ignored), detection focused on the actual steel part, not on individual aluminium filings, chips or dust remaining in the surroundings
- Correction factor K: K = 1 for steel (full, natural sensing range), the full rated range for steel makes it easier to design applications without additional assumptions about range reduction
- Housing: Threaded, fastening with lock nuts ensures a stable installation
- Housing material: Stainless steel, increased mechanical strength of the housing ensures a long service life
- Sensor face material: Stainless steel, dimensional stability under dynamic load conditions
- Mounting: Non-flush mounting, wider lateral field of action expands application possibilities
- Switching function: NC, used in safety functions and operational monitoring
- Cable length: 2 m, the absence of a plug-in connector eliminates extra points of potential interference
- Supply voltage: DC 10-30V, compatible with PLC systems and industrial automation
Applications
- Automotive and assembly – The proximity sensor for ferrous metals is used to verify the correct seating of steel parts, body panels and structural components in the automotive industry.
- Machine industry and machine building – The steel detector is used in the machine industry to check the presence of structural steel components.
- Steel enclosures and cabinets – Use in the production of steel enclosures and control cabinets supports automatic assembly checking.
- Checking before resistance welding on the production line – The use of the part-presence sensor before the resistance welding process allows verification that the steel component is in the correct place.
- Applications with aluminium chips in the surroundings – The FE inductive sensor is used in applications where aluminium chips are generated during machining, without being aimed at detecting them.
Benefits/Features
- Specialisation for steel – the solution was developed to detect the actual steel components, without being aimed at detecting aluminium and its alloys.
- Stable checking of the actual component – detection focused on steel allows the solution's operation to be better matched to applications in a mixed-metal environment containing non-ferrous metals.
- Material specialisation – the parameters have been selected for applications involving steel and ferrous metals, not for detecting aluminium contaminants.
- For ferrous metals – the solution can be used to check components made of steel and other ferromagnetic materials, while maintaining characteristics focused on the actual part.
- Steel presence sensor – allows automatic checking of the presence of the actual steel component at a specific point in the process.
When to choose this model
- For checking parts after cutting – the part-presence sensor will perform well for automatically confirming that a steel part is in the correct place.
- For checking the position of ferrous components – the model will perform well in applications where non-ferrous metals are present alongside steel.
- When aluminium chips are generated during machining – the solution will perform well in applications where the aim is to detect only the steel part, with aluminium chips completely ignored.
- When steel is to be detected and aluminium completely ignored – choose this model for applications where the actual detection target is exclusively a steel part, regardless of the presence of non-ferrous metals in the surroundings.
The diameter of an inductive sensor is a dimension that defines the width of the sensor element measured in millimeters. This is an important technical parameter as it affects the mounting method and the space required for installation.
Rated detection range is a key parameter of an inductive sensor.Indicates the distance at which the sensor changes its output state when a metal object approaches its front end axially. This is the sensor's most important functional feature—it determines how close the object being detected must be in order to be registered.
