The industrial NMF12101-FE inductive sensor is used in machines and production lines where steel is the object of interest and aluminium does not generate a signal.
This M12 inductive sensor is intended for integration with automation systems, process control systems and industrial equipment. The Ø12 x 68 mm format makes it easy to mount in standard enclosures and industrial automation systems that require reliable components.
Technical specification:
- Diameter: M12, stable operation in harsh industrial conditions and during intensive use
- Length: 68 mm, elongated housing with increased mechanical rigidity and high durability
- Detection range: 2 mm, wear resistance thanks to the non-contact metal detection method
- Detected materials: Steel and other ferrous metals (aluminium ignored), detection focused on the actual steel part, not on individual aluminium filings, chips or dust remaining in the surroundings
- Correction factor K: K = 1 for steel (full, natural sensing range), the K = 1 correction factor applies to steel and other ferrous metals as the reference material, meaning the rated operating distance Sn is the full, natural detection range
- Housing: Threaded, fastening with lock nuts ensures a stable installation
- Housing material: Stainless steel, long sensor lifespan even under intensive use
- Sensor face material: Stainless steel, capable of operating in coolants, oils, and industrial emulsions
- Mounting: Flush mounting, mounting into metal surfaces per the flush standard
- Switching function: NO, signal generated during detection of a metal object
- Plug type: M12, connector sensors allow quick, tool-free connection to industrial installations
- Supply voltage: DC 10-30V, standard supply voltage range for industrial sensors
Applications
- Production transport and intralogistics – The FE part-presence sensor monitors the presence of steel pallets, parts or hooks on conveyor lines and belt conveyors.
- Steel cutting, milling and turning – Use in the automation of steel cutting, milling and turning processes increases production efficiency, even when aluminium fixture or guard components are present around the part.
- Recycling and sorting of steel scrap – Use in scrap sorting and ferrous metal recycling increases the selectivity of the steel recovery process.
- Checking before resistance welding on the production line – The use of the part-presence sensor before the resistance welding process allows verification that the steel component is in the correct place.
- Compact detection layouts – The compact design of the FE sensor makes it easier to design steel detection stations in locations with limited installation space.
Benefits/Features
- Specialisation for steel – the solution was developed to detect the actual steel components, without being aimed at detecting aluminium and its alloys.
- Part-presence sensor – can check the presence of a steel component at a specific location without reacting to incidental aluminium parts.
- Mechanical resistance – the full-metal design performs well in applications where steel detection takes place in a demanding industrial environment.
- Range without additional correction for steel – the ability to use the rated range makes it easier to select the right solution for a specific application.
- A comprehensive solution for steel detection – the full-metal monolithic construction, metal sensing face, K=1, actual range and focus on the actual part together form a solution for demanding industrial applications.
When to choose this model
- For detecting steel – choose this model when you need an inductive sensor designed for the contactless detection of steel parts.
- When steel is the primary detection material – this sensor for steel will be a better choice than a solution selected purely as a universal metal sensor.
- When the sensor operates close to the machine – the metal sensing face and monolithic construction perform well in locations exposed to contact with the working environment.
- For steel resistance welding stations – the proximity sensor can check the presence of the component before the resistance welding process starts.
Connection
The sensor has an NPN output, so connect it with an M12 4-pin connection cable without LEDs. Cables with LEDs (NXOC12281…, NXOC12401…) have a yellow status LED wired for a PNP output and are not suitable for NPN sensors.
The diameter of an inductive sensor is a dimension that defines the width of the sensor element measured in millimeters. This is an important technical parameter as it affects the mounting method and the space required for installation.
Rated detection range is a key parameter of an inductive sensor.Indicates the distance at which the sensor changes its output state when a metal object approaches its front end axially. This is the sensor's most important functional feature—it determines how close the object being detected must be in order to be registered.
